Wendy Christman- Licensed Master Esthetician
I battled acne as a young girl and through my teens just like most. I tried everything, even Accutane. It helped, but I continued to break out into adulthood. I decided in 2000 that I had enough, and no one was able to help me, so I was going to learn about skin and figure this out for myself. I went to Clover Park Technical College Esthetics Program for the single purpose to fix my skin, I had no intentions of helping anyone else. I was also told by another classmate that I should not take this up as a profession because no one would let me touch their skin since mine looked so bad. She was right, mine was terrible. My self-esteem was at rock bottom, I hated to look in the mirror. I hated to touch my face, it was lumpy and bumpy. It wasn’t long before I started to understand how skin worked, and how I was actually causing my skin issues. I was mortified. No wonder these doctors couldn’t help me in the 15 minutes they spent with me in their offices. I made a few changes to my diet, and a big difference to my skincare routine, and within a few short months I was seeing a huge change. Don’t get me wrong, I still get the occasional hormonal breakout along my jawline. I am a woman, and it is going to happen, I don’t freak out about that and it doesn’t affect me the way it used to, I think because I am educated about acne and how to keep my skin clear.
Since I was able to clear my skin up, and I wasn’t embarrassed anymore I decided that I could help others with their skin as well, and went into providing esthetic services. I didn’t stop with skincare though, laser services really intrigued me. I went on to do laser hair removal, photofacials, microdermabrasion, and then to eventually own a successful medical spa with my friend and physician, which years later we sold. I still had too much to offer and wanted to stay in the industry so I worked for Dr. Brazil at Olympic Dermatology providing laser services and skin care. Then started working on my business degree. Later I decided that I wanted to have a more flexible schedule to have time with my family, finish my business degree, and still do what I love – taking care of clients with skin issues. So I opened a small private studio “Saving Face Skinspa”, which is by appointment only, where you will have 100% of my attention, expertise, and professionalism.
Recently I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Many of my clients know that my hands shook; it was just a part of me. I was able to compensate for the shaking and provided excellent services. However, in 2022 things took a turn and I am no longer able to perform services. The shakiness has gotten so bad that my whole body shakes and I am unable to compensate like I used to be able to do. With the inability to give 110% of myself to my clients; I decided it was time to semi-retire. I am still in the game of acne and anti-aging. However, it is all online now. So meetings through zoom and I still provide access to the products through the online store and estheticians all over the US.
