Blemishes, Pimples and How to get Rid of Them

Blemishes and Pimples

Any kind of mark or discoloration on the skin can be called a blemish. According to an online dictionary, its definition is “is “a small mark or flaw that spoils the appearance of something.” So blemishes could include acne, but can also include dark spots or places where someone has picked their acne lesions.

All of acne is caused by the inherited tendency of “retention hyperkeratosis”. This is a fancy name for dead skin cells piling up and sticking together inside the pore along with other debris such as sebum, bacteria and a random rudimentary hair. This debris clumps together to form a plug inside the pore. This is actually called a “comedo”. If this comedo remains non-inflamed, it becomes a whitehead or blackhead. However, if it goes down the path of inflammation (also an inherited tendency) it will turn into a pimple, pustule, or cyst.

A pimple is an inflamed acne lesion that has not come to a head yet.

A pustule is a pimple that has come to a head.

Acne cysts are soft, pus-filled and inflamed lesions that occur deep in the dermis. Cystic acne can affect anyone, but it is more common in teenage boys and young men.

All inflamed acne needs strong antibacterial products used correctly to get it under control. Inflamed acne lesions like pimples, pustules and cysts tend to respond quickly to the right acne products. This along with the right lifestyle changes can dramatically clear up and get rid of inflamed acne.

Get Rid of Pimples and Blemishes

To get rid of pimples, you need to use products that will decrease the inflammation – products with ingredients like mandelic acid, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.  However, it is not enough to use the right products, you also need to use them in the correct way. It takes an experienced Acne Specialist to guide you – they will know which products to recommend for your type of acne. Then they will guide you in how to use the products in a systematic way to get your skin clear as fast as possible.

Icing inflamed acneic skin is also highly recommended. Ice helps to bring down inflammation and can be effective in keeping inflamed lesions from coming to the surface.

When you are on the right products and treatment program, you can get rid of pimples pretty quickly – they can be easier to clear than blackheads as they are more on the surface.

The term “blemish” has a wide range of meanings. Generally, it is any mark that is left over from acne rather than the acne itself. Skin blemishes need to be treated the same way acneic skin is treated. The main concern for blemish control is the same for acne – to keep any new acne from forming in the first place – this is the best blemish treatment. If you have your acne under control, you can say bye bye blemishes as well.
